Boston, and a Well-Traveled One Year Old

I am often convinced that Gavin is too smart for his own good. I mean, what kind of one year old speaks in phrases, or four-word sentences? He can (and does) repeat everything we say to him, which isn't so good when Jordan or I start slipping with the four-letter curse words. Sigh. We do our best to expose him to everything that we possibly can, including books, songs and new places to see. So this weekend, we went to Boston!

I had never been, Jordan hadn't been since he was 14, and obviously, it was Gavin's first trip to the city! We reserved a room at the Hilton, which was wonderful and comfortable and pretty darn lavish. We arrived in the city late Friday, around 9 pm. Gavin was tired, but happy, and content to explore the hotel room for a while. We finally got him to sleep around 10 pm, and Jordan and I crashed for the night, too. You kind of have no choice but to go to bed early when you are sharing a hotel room with a little one.

Saturday, we woke up bright and early and hit the breakfast buffet. Nothing better than instant food for a hungry little man. With food at the ready, we were able to keep him from disturbing the other diners, and we were able to eat quickly ourselves. After breakfast, we headed to the New England Aquarium. It was fantastic! Gavin adores aquariums. I saw the fattest penguin I had ever seen, and we took our time climbing the spiral ramp that encircles the large tank in the middle of the aquarium. We were able to see sharks, fish and an amazing sea turtle up close, through the windows looking into the tank. Gavin was happy to point and stare at all of the sealife swimming by.

After the aquarium, we walked a few blocks and had lunch at an Irish Pub (where else?), then we went to check out Quincy Market. Gavin fell asleep in his stroller without a peep - we just looked down and he was snoozing away! So Jordan and I walked him along the water where there was shade and a cool breeze. After he woke up, we went to check out the Boston Children's Museum. It was awesome, and I highly recommend it! I think it would be best for kids 3-8 or so - Gavin was a bit young - but he still had a great time playing in Playspace and exploring the Crawlers Room. Yes, they have a room dedicated to crawlers - no walkers (or shoes!) allowed! Gavin got to push a shopping cart, drive a car, play with trains and crawl on big foam obstacles. We also checked out the bubble room and the race room, as well as the Construction Zone. On the way out, we grabbed some ice cream and then headed back to the hotel. We ordered room service for dinner and spent the evening relaxing and playing! All in all, it was a great trip.

We are home now... Gavin is sound asleep in his bed, and I'm sure he's thankful to be there. It's great to see new places, but it's always good to come home! :)

Blogging?

So, I thought I would start a blog to keep a record, more for myself (as well as you lucky readers!), of the things that are going on in my daily life. It's been going much to fast for us lately, and there's no better way to remember than to write things down! I'm no good at journaling, so here goes! Sometimes this will be boring, sometimes mundane, sometimes you might wonder why you are reading it - and I might very well wonder why I am writing it! But maybe, just maybe, this blog will teach me something about myself. :) Welcome!
